My biggest sleep tip is to develop a consistent, predictable bedtime routine for your little one. Having that consistency tells their brain that it’s time for that longgggg stretch of sleep. We’ve followed the same bedtime routine since Will was 2 weeks old and it’s something we all look forward to each and every night. We typically aim for bedtime somewhere between 7-7:30 so I’ll type up our “ideal” time schedule although sometimes it goes earlier or later.

6:30 pm: Bath time! We love bath time – we do it each and every night. When he was a newborn, I was nervous it would dry out his skin so we did soap every other night. Now that he’s a bit older we use soap every night and his hair for sure needs washed. By the end of the day, it’s very greasy [thanks to my 100% italian-ness….].
While he’s in the bath I pop his towel in the dryer on speed dry to get warmed up. Because who wouldn’t love a warm towel when they get out of the tub?
6:45 pm: Time to get out of the bath! Before I get him out of the bath, I place the Boppy Newborn Lounger on the floor of the bathtub and place the warm towel on top. This helps not place the slippery baby on the cold hard bathroom floor.
6:45-6:50 pm: Time to rock in the rocking chair. Before I get Will’s diaper on, I take a few minutes to rock in the rocking chair with him to just wind down and spend some cuddle time together.
6:55 pm: Time to start feeding. My husband feeds Will while I clean up his room and start the laundry. We try to do a “factory reset” in our house before we go to bed and I take the feeding time as a great time to get Will’s room all cleaned up. If I need to change his sheets (which I do at least once a week) I do so during the feeding.
7:10 pm: Feeding is all done. Because Will is a #happyspitter we wait to put his clothes on until after he’s done eating. Will wears a GapBaby onesie under a Kissy Kissy sleeper each night to bed. We get his dressed and then spend a couple minutes on the floor singing or playing to get some last minute fun time in before bed.
7:15 pm: Begin the bedtime windown. I turn on our sound machine and turn off the lights. My husband rocks Will for a few minutes giving him his pacifier attached to a lovey. We don’t give him the pacifier in the crib anymore so this is his time to get some last minute paci time before bed. Once we’ve rocked for a few minutes we place Will in the crib awake. Prior to dropping the swaddle [our favorites were this one and this one] we would rock him then swaddle him in bed.
Here’s a fun graphic of our bedtime routine!
